Bruce Asmussen's '56 Ford F-100
For many of us the decision to buy an old project truck is an exciting venture. For Bruce Asmussen it turned from a project to a job. In 1974 Bruce found a '56 Ford F-100 from a seller who was starting a family and didn't have the time or money for the build; Bruce jumped at the opportunity to purchase the Ford. Bruce's rebuild started in the carport of his apartment building, where he pulled out the blown 292 Y-block motor and replaced it with a rebuilt long-block. Bruce thought it would be a good idea to learn how to do bodywork. He found that the state of California had a vocational adult class that offered a body repair class at night; he signed up. He learned a lot while working in the class and landed himself a job in a body shop from the experience he gained.
