The second new Mercury we'll be seeing is the 2005 Montego sedan, a twin to the upcoming Ford 500 that arrives summer or fall 2004 with a 3.0-liter Duratec V-6 with CVT, standard front-wheel drive, optional all-wheel drive, and, perhaps at launch, an optional six-speed automatic. Neither the 500 nor the Montego has yet been seen in sheetmetal form, but Lincoln Mercury released this drawing of its roomy new Camry and Accord fighter amidst proclamations that the folks from Dearborn had come to Chicago to "re-launch the Mercury brand." Mercury promises that we'll also be seeing a small SUV in 2005 and yet another sedan in 2006, but revealed no other details. While rumors of Mercury's impending demise have now been proven completely false, these four products had better be hits, or Mercury could still by the end of the decade follow Oldsmobile to the graveyard.
