2003 New York Auto Show: Mercury Mariner
Mercury will have four new products over the next two years, starting with the Monterey minivan this fall, the premium, Ford 500-based Montego sedan in summer 2004, and then this Ford Escape-based Mariner in late 2004. Featuring seventeen-inch wheels and a waterfall grille, the Mariner also will, Mercury claims, have the best interior of any small SUV on the market. Mercury will have four new products over the next two years, starting with the Monterey minivan this fall, the premium, Ford 500-based Montego sedan in summer 2004, and then this Ford Escape -based Mariner in late 2004. Featuring seventeen-inch wheels and a waterfall grille, the Mariner also will, Mercury claims, have the best interior of any small SUV on the market. Interior appointments include two-tone door panels, chromed door handles, thickly stitched seat-fabric seams, woodgrain trim, and a floor-mounted automatic transmission shifter with a satin aluminum shift knob. As with the Escape, the Mariner will be powered by a choice of 2.3-liter four-cylinder or 3.0-liter V-6 engines. The Mariner joins three existing SUVs in the Lincoln Mercury lineup, including the Mercury Moutaineer and Lincoln Aviator , both based on the Ford Explorer , and the large Lincoln Navigator.
