There are certain words we come across that have acquired an unjustly negative connotation. Take“redundant”, for example. Unless you're building a bridge or an airplane, “redundancy” has arrived at synonymy with the unnecessary, obsolete or even useless. Redundancy is prevalent in the automobile industry. General Motors, for example, is known to produce Chevrolet, Pontiac and Buick sedans all competing against each other in the same segment, while Chevy, GMC, and even Cadillac, HUMMER or Saab sport-utility vehicles contend for the same market share.
