If Sky Motoring could go on the Fourth Plinth...
Do you reckon you could get a Caterham Seven Superlight R500 winched up onto the Fourth Plinth at Trafalgar Square? I’ve spent my lunch hour (and a bit longer to be honest) fascinated by the artists/egotists (depending on your outlook) contributing to Anthony Gormley’s‘One& Other’ living monument , which will run every hour, 24-hours a day, for the next 99days.
Spaces on the plinth are still available - probably just the graveyard shifts - but seeing as these were originally intended for kings and generals, I’d say the Caterham can offer that kind of automotive pedigree. I'd also like to historically mark the existence of such an outrageous British sports car with 520bhp per tonne, just in case we're all driving electric milk floats by the time Gormley prepares his next social/artistic experiment.
Also, rather than just winching it up there - seriously, how boring would that be? -I'd like to set the front wheels in concrete, lock the sequential gearbox into first and plant the throttle to create the world’s most beautiful static burnout. Right until the tyres blow. Now that would be art...
