Nissan Qazana Photoshoot on Video
The Nissan Sunderland plant is the most random photoshoot location I’ve ever attended. The Qazana Concept had been placed in the middle of Nissan’s Press Shop, just a few metres away from a (very noisy) transfer press that was making Qashqai doors. Apparently, this particular machine can make 3500 pressings per shift– that’s 3500 panels pressed, trimmed and finished. It’s quicker and more efficient than the presses on offer in Japan.
What I find more incredible is that if Nissan needs to change the dyes during a shift (dyes are basically the casts for whatever you want that sheet steel to turn into) say to start making roofs instead of front doors, it takes just eight minutes. According to production supervisor Dave Rain, this process would have taken more than half a day. Now that's what I call progress.
