Toyota Prius: Solar-panelled roof on view
The new Toyota Prius is taking green to another level with this (optional) solar panelled sunroof. As the video blog explains, it creates enough energy to power an electric air circulation fan which can cool the cabin from 80 degrees C to 45 degrees C. This obviously creates a more comfortable environment for the driver upon entry, but it also reduces the work rate of the air conditioning unit. Impressive enough, but according to the Toyota Prius' chief engineer Akihito Otsuka, solar-powered operations have the ability to go an awful lot further. Speaking with him at dinner last night, he explained that this application on the Prius was actually developed four years ago. Looking forwards, he envisaged a future city car that could obtain a significant amount of its power generation from solar panels.
